Life after the Tragic Exodus: Vietnamese Resettlement in Houston (1975 - Present)

The resettlement experience of the Vietnamese refugees to Houston and vicinity is represented here by a combination of text narratives, visual images, maps, and audio/video clips. The five Houston Asian American Archive (HAAA) interviewees showcased here tell the story of this tragic exodus from the Vietnamese viewpoint, which is seldom available in the English language, and especially through such an interactive and multi-media format.

Portal of Healing

"Portal of Healing," is a site-specific installation by Rachel Gonzales (b.1986), a second-generation Filipina-American artist, that was exhibited at Rice University’s Fondren Library in Spring of 2021.

History of Japanese Farmers in Texas

This digital humanities project presents the amazing yet less known stories of the earliest Japanese immigrants in Texas. By starting farms along the Gulf of Mexico and cultivating rice, vegetables, and fruits, they contributed to agricultural development in Texas as well as fought racial prejudice in the state. Viewers can find biographies of various Japanese farming families in Texas and stories of their endeavors in the state and beyond.
