This collection contains photographs, news clippings, correspondence, and programs from the organization. The materials cover activities of the Houston chapter from the mid 1950s to the early 2000s.
The Chinese American Citizens Alliance was created in 1895 in San Francisco, California. The founders wanted to celebrate Chinese American heritage and fight against the prejudice they were facing at the time. They were instrumental in improving the legal status of Chinese Americans and other Asian Americans across the country. Dr. Edward K.T. Chen founded the Houston chapter in 1954, which among other things, has produced the Miss Chinatown Houston Scholarship Pageant since 1971.
