David John Scribner collection
This collection consists of a black and white photograph of David John Scribner interviewing Leo Kottke at radio station KUHF in 1976.
David John Scribner grew up in Bemidji, Minnesota where he devloped his love of music. After an extended road trip, he found himself in Houston in 1971. By 1976, he was DJing at KUHF. He hosted jazz and big band focused programs there until 1986.
After KTRU re-opened after the June 1976 flood, he began doing early morning shifts. On January 8, 1979, he began the radio show "Chicken Skin Music" on KTRU. He hosted the show until the summer of 2017. The radio program featured Americana, blues, folk, and other music from off the beaten path. Scribner also conducted interviews with local Houston folk musicians including Richard Dobson, The Banded Geckos, Bill Cade, Sean Walters, Eric Taylor, Lucinda Williams, and Don Sanders.
At KTRU, in addition to "Chicken Skin," he brought his love of big band music to the station in the late 1980s-early 1990s. He also hosted a few shows that focused on new wave.
