The Red Book of Houston collection
The Red Book of Houston, compiled in 1915, documents a portion of Houston's Black community, focusing on their personal, educational, religious, and work lives. Below are Houston-specific images taken from the book. You can scroll through the images or search for specific places or names.
We scanned the book courtesy of the African American History Research Center at the Gregory School. There are also a few images taken in 2021 that document how places have changed around the city.
