Ayers family collection
This collection includes photographs documenting Captain A. T. Ayers World War I service. The remaining photograph features a portrait of Ayers’s grandmother, Eliza Freitag.
The Ayers and allied families lived in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic states and in the Midwest. Some of the Ayers took an interest in Southern agriculture and Antebellum culture, relocating permanently to Missississippi and Texas, though other branches remained in the mid-Atlantic states and the Midwest. Those included in the Southern migration owned and operated two post-Reconstruction plantations.
