Thomas Lindsey Blayney papers
This collection consists of photographs and an honorarium presented to Rice during the Semicentennial.
Thomas Lindsey Blayney (1874-1971) was a founding member of the faculty of Rice Institute and Professor of German from 1912- 1924. He studied philology and comparative literature at Heidelberg University, receiving his PhD in 1904. During his time at Rice he was involved in expanding the cultural and civic life of Houston, notably in the establishment of Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts. Blayney later became president of Texas State Women’s College (1924-26) and dean of Carleton College (1926-46).
