The congregation formed in 1946 as a result of a merger of two synagogues, Congregation Adath Yeshurun and synagogue Beth El. Adath Yeshurun was founded in 1891 and Beth El, the first Conservative synagogue in Houston, was founded in 1924. Congregation Beth Yeshurun is currently the largest Conservative synagogue in the United States and is the religious home to nearly 2,000 families, providing spiritual, educational, and social support to its members.
