Charles Roberts U.S. Civil War letters
This collection consists of family correspondence from Charles Roberts to his father, mother, and two siblings, Helen and Amos. The letters contain Roberts’s impressions of his career in the military, the movements of his regiment, and his personal reflections on the war.
Charles Roberts’s military career began in the Union Army under the 93rd regiment as a New York State Volunteer from 1862-1864. He served under Major General George B. McClellan and Major General Joseph Hooker. Additionally he participated in the armies operating against Richmond.
