Ruth Hutton Fred papers
This collection is composed of recordings from the KTRH program “Ask Ruth” and from “Voices of Emanu El.” The “Ask Ruth” recordings include topics such as promoting tolerance and combating prejudice.
Ruth Hutton Fred was born in Marlette, Michigan. She received a BA in social work from the University of Michigan and her Masters of Social Work from Smith College. Fred moved to Houston in 1940 with her husband, Harry Fred. She became the first executive director of the United Jewish Charities, now Jewish Family Services, and would provide advice to the community through her radio program and the “Dear Ruth” column in the Jewish Herald-Voice.
