Max Herzog World War II Memorabilia collection
This collection consists of a recording of Max Herzog's messages to his family while he was serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Herzog recorded his surroundings, including greetings from fellow servicemen.
Max Herzog was born in Joliet, Illinois on February 11, 1915 and graduated from high school in 1932. Great Depression circumstances led him to Texas. In Houston he met his wife Mayme Bergeson. In 1942 Herzog was drafted into military service and served until October 1945. Returning to civilian life in Houston, Max worked in the grocery business and owned his own store on Lyons Avenue. Max Herzog's wartime service is memorialized on a banner created at his Houston synagogue, Congregation Beth Jacob.
