Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston records
This collection consists of program guides, the Center News, a scrapbook, and more.
The Jewish Community Center in Houston has been a part of the community since the 1930s. Their focus is developing Jewish identity, fostering Jewish values, and enriching the Jewish community and the greater community. Originally located at 2020 Herman Drive, the JCC moved to the Joe Weingarten building at 5601 S. Braeswood in 1969. It has satellite locations in west Houston and the Meyer and Ida Gordon Campsite in Rosenberg. The Bertha Alyce preschoolcampus, which opened in 1987, is also located in the Joe Weingarten building. The JCC building sustained heavy damage during Hurricane Harvey in 2017. After an extensive remodel, the new building opened in 2023.
