Charles Ricketts and Charles Shannon collection
This collection includes examples of art from books designed by Charles Ricketts and Charles Shannon.
Renowned artists Charles Ricketts (1866-1931) and Charles H. Shannon (1863-1937) were pivotal figures in the late 19th and early 20th century British art scene, their intimate and professional relationship spanning over 50 years. While excelling in book illustration and painting, their identities were infused most deeply within the realm of their contributions to "Little Magazines." Here, amidst avant-garde movements, they collaborated closely with their coterie of fellow queer artists and aesthetes, cultivating a space where their identities bled into their art with both innovation and deeply personal narratives.
