Robert Avalon music collection
This collection consists of photographs, programs and other ephemera documenting the career of Robert Avalon. There are materials related to the opera, Carlota, which the composer commenced in the early 1990s, but never completed due to his untimely death. The correspondence between friends and family members dates back to Avalon’s childhood.
Robert Avalon was born in San Antonio in 1955, starting piano as a child and studying music at Trinity University and at Interlochen in high school. He was a self-taught composer and won awards in Texas for teaching and composition. He performed widely, toured in England, and became the artistic director at the Foundation for Modern Music. He died in 2004.
