Arthur E. Jones Architectural records
This collection consists of photographs of Houston’s Astrodome construction and a request for additional funding for the project. The structure is the world’s first domed multi-purpose sports stadium.
Arthur E. Jones graduated from Rice University in 1947 and joined the Houston firm of Lloyd and Morgan that year. The firm went through several incarnations, including Jones's promotion to partner in 1961. The architecture firms of Hermon Lloyd & W. B. Morgan, and Wilson, Morris, Crain and Anderson designed the Astrodome. It was completed in November 1964.
The original materials are held by the Woodson Research Center in Fondren Library. Search the finding aid/inventory for the Arthur E. Jones Architectural records, MS 535.
