Stockton Axson Collection of 18th Century British Drama
This collection includes scanned editions of 18th century British dramas. Genres include comedies, romances, tragedies, and pantomime with date ranges in the 1660s to the late 1700s.
Dr. Stockton Axson, a native Georgian, came to Texas in 1914 to teach at the Rice Institute. Axson was an English professor who eventually became head of the department, and became a sought after lecturer. He left Rice for a two year stint as National Secretary of the American Red Cross from 1917 to 1919. His brother-in-law was President Woodrow Wilson. Axson returned to Rice and continued to teach there until his death in 1935.
