This collection contains a photograph of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington and letters, which are largely from Wellesley to evangelist Anna Maria Jenkins. The remaining letters are from Sophy Misters to Anna Maria Jenkins.
Arthur Wellesley rose to prominence as a military and political figure of the 19th century. He defeated Napoleon Bonaparte at Waterloo in 1815 and served as Commander-in-Chief of the British Army. He remained in military service until his death in 1852. He also served two terms as Prime Minister of Great Britain.
