Pleasantville neighborhood history book and oral histories
This collection contains oral histories from Pleasantville residents reflecting the growth of the neighborhood, as well as a book authored by two residents, Geneva Sharp and Talmadge Sharp Sr, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the neighborhood.
Pleasantville, a neighborhood in Houston, TX, was conceived as an African American planned community under Federal Housing Authority (FHA) program 608 in 1951-1953. The neighborhood has a demonstrated history of strong civic involvement and political activism.
The original materials are held by the Woodson Research Center in Fondren Library.
