Colonel Cyrus Burnet Smith U.S. Civil War papers
This collection contains photographs of Dr. Cyrus Burnet Smith, more specifically during and after serving in the American Civil War.
Cyrus Burnet Smith was born in South Hadley, Massachusetts in 1839. He attended medical school in his home state, graduating in 1858. Smith joined the 34th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry in 1862 as assistant surgeon and later moved to the 11th Massachusetts Volunteers as a surgeon where he would stay until his discharge in 1865. He died in 1879 when a lightning strike caught his house on fire.
