Captain Edwin Fosha U.S. Civil War letters

This collection contains letters Captain Edwin Fosha wrote to his wife, Rebecca, and daughters. The correspondence pertains largely to Fosha’s military service during the American Civil War. 

Edwin J. Fosha began his military service in 1862 when he joined the 91st Illinois Infantry. That same year the Confederate army captured his regiment in Kentucky. Fosha would later serve as a paroled prisoner in the Benton Barracks of Missouri until 1863. He and his regiment moved south, firstly to New Orleans, Louisiana and eventually to Brownsville, Texas where he died from acute dysentery in 1864.
