Aaron Martin U.S. Civil War letters
This collection includes letters between Aaron Martin and his family during his service in the American Civil War. Some are personal and others describe army life and battles.
Aaron Martin was born in Salem, New York on July 25, 1838 and left home in 1861 to study medicine in Rockford, Illinois. He went on to enlist with the 74th Illinois Volunteers in 1862 serving in Perryville, Nolensville, Murfreesboro, and Winchester. He also participated in the Chickamauga encounters. In 1863 he worked in the dispensary of the Cumberland Hospital of Nashville and finished his service there in 1865.
