Ellington Field research collection
This collection contains a photograph of technicians working on Air Corps planes at Ellington Field, Houston, Texas.
Ellington Field opened on November 27, 1917 as one of 32 Air Service training camps. It was the first to offer an aerial bombing school. It operated in both world wars, with a partial return to service in World War II as one of the ten strategic defense bases of the United States. Though inactivated by the Air Force in 1976, Ellington Field is now a joint installation that serves the needs of the Texas Air National Guard and NASA.
The original materials are held by the Woodson Research Center in Fondren Library. Search the finding aid/inventory for the Ellington Field research collection, MS 547.
