Young Marshall Moody family papers
This collection contains letters from General Young Marshall Moody to his wife during his time in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War.
Young Marshall Moody was an Alabama businessman before joining the army’s Alabama 43rd Regiment, serving under General Archibald Gracie. The regiment experienced some of the worst fighting of the war and Moody was wounded sometime in 1863. Upon General Gracie’s death, Moody took over command, eventually earning the rank of Brigadier General in 1865. At the end of the war, the Moody family moved to New Orleans where General Moody died of a fever in 1866.
