Eseck G. Wilber U.S. Civil War letters
This collection contains letters written by Union soldier Eseck G. Wilber to his parents and siblings during the Civil War. The letters describe army life and comment on superior officers and dignitaries.
Eseck G. Wilber was a member of the 120th New York State Volunteers, Company K in 1862, leaving behind his family in Cairo, New York. Wilber’s service included battles of Fredericksburg, Second Manassas, and Gettysburg. He was captured in 1863 and was imprisoned at the Belle Isle Confederate prison. Wilber was later transferred to Andersonville Prison in Sumter County and died there on September 15, 1864.
